A chartered accountant practicing abroad is entitled to train an assistant, provided that his principal occupation is the practice of the profession of CA. This happens during the time of hiring the assistant and also in each of the qualification years based on which he claims the right to train assistants.
All members working as paid assistants or as partners in a foreign audit firm are also eligible to train assistants equivalent to paid assistants in an audit firm in India. All the conditions applicable to the paid assistants in India would also apply to them.
However, in the case of a foreign firm, at least one partner must be a member of the Institute or qualify for membership as per MRA. The students should also consider the following points before opting for Articleship abroad:
- It is best to apply for a VISA to the country as soon as possible, as the process can be lengthy.
- The cost of living abroad is minimal because the stipend prescribed by ICAI is minimal, and requirements may not be met.
- You should also plan for final exam preparation, such as opportunities to take courses or attend tutoring centers abroad, and the vacation days required to do so.
