What Are the New Changes in CA Course?
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has made several changes to the Chartered Accountancy (CA) course over the past few years. In June 2022, the ICAI announced a few more changes in the CA course which are likely to be implemented in the May 2024 attempt.
The course content will be altered to align with the International Curriculum so that students pursuing CA can become global experts in the upcoming years. According to the New Education Policy, reforms have been implemented, and rote learning has been replaced with a concentration on conceptual application. Students in CA will be taught technical skills such as artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, big data, data science, etc.

What Is the Latest News about ICAI Convocation?
The ICAI hosts a convocation twice a year to recognize newly certified chartered accountants. By bringing them together under the auspices of the Chartered Accountants fraternity, the Convocation seeks to cultivate a sense of community among junior members of the accounting profession.
Recently, the ICAI convocation was held in 12 locations across the country in January. The dates for the event were 24-25 January for different cities and details of the location were also provided. Personal communication was also sent to each and every candidate to confirm their presence.
What Are the New Rules for Chartered Accountants 2022?
Some of the major changes were proposed by the ICAI in the course of Chartered Accountancy and the same was shared on the official website. There is no confirmation from the ICAI that when these changes will be implemented but these are likely to be implemented in May 2024 attempts.
Below are the new rules that have been proposed by the ICAI:
- To apply for COP (Certificate of Practice), a person must complete 1 year of post-qualification experience as a practicing FCA (Fellow Chartered Accountant). It should have been within the last five years.
- Interested candidates can register for Foundation after completing the 10th standard and will be eligible only after taking the 12th standard exams.
- Candidates who have passed the CWA or CS Intermediate Examinations are excluded from taking the Foundation Examination.
- The BAA (Business Accounting Associate) Certificate has replaced the ATC (Accounting Technician Course).
- The articleship’s duration also has been reduced from 3 to 2 years.
- The students must have a one-year experience in a CA firm in order to practice Chartered Accountancy.
- Candidates can also go for industrial training in the last year of their articleship for a period of nine months to one year.
- ICAI has also announced that stipends will be increased by 100% as many students had complained that the stipend is quite low.
- ICAI has reduced leaves to 12 days for a year which will be 24 days for 2 years.
- To be eligible for the final exam, the candidates have to score at least 50% marks in each module stated above.
When CA New Syllabus Started?
The exams for the year 2023 will be held as per the existing scheme but the new syllabus is likely to be implemented from the May 2024 attempt. There is no official announcement on the implementation of the new syllabus but the candidates who are attempting the May 2024 exam should keep a check on the announcement provided by ICAI on their website.
